Tempered Glass Does Not Crack — It Goes
A windshield is laminated: two layers bonded to a plastic interlayer, which is why it cracks and stays in one piece. Rear glass is tempered, engineered to disintegrate into small blunt fragments rather than shards. There is no repairing it and no partial failure — it is intact or it is gone. Which also means that unlike a windshield chip, there is no window of opportunity where acting early saves the glass.
Defroster Grids and Embedded Antennas
Those fine horizontal lines are a heating element printed onto the glass, and on many vehicles the radio antenna is printed there too. Both have to be reconnected properly to the new panel. A rear window that fogs in a monsoon downpour, or a radio that has quietly lost half its reception since the glass was done, usually traces back to connections that were reattached carelessly.
The Cleanup Is Half the Job
Tempered glass goes everywhere — into seat rails, under carpet, into the spare wheel well, down inside the tailgate. Fragments that stay behind work their way out for months afterwards. We vacuum the cargo area, the seat tracks and the door cavities properly. A cheap rear glass job is usually cheap because this step got skipped.
Break-Ins, Heat and Rear Glass

Will my defroster and radio still work afterwards?

How long can I drive with the rear window out?
