What RAM Glass Work Involves
RAM driver-assist and the glass features on your specific trim change how this job is done — here is what we check before we touch anything.
ProMaster: Flat Glass, Constant Hits
The ProMaster windshield is close to vertical and very large, which is the worst combination for rock. There is no rake to deflect a stone, so impacts land with full force and tend to star rather than skip. The upside is that the glass is relatively uncomplicated on most configurations. If you run ProMasters on delivery routes, budget for glass the way you budget for tires.
RAM 1500 Camera and Sensor Work
RAM 1500s optioned with forward collision warning and lane departure carry a camera at the top of the windshield, and many also have a rain sensor and humidity sensor bonded to the glass. Those sensors transfer to the new windshield and have to seat cleanly against it — an air gap under a rain sensor makes wipers behave erratically in a monsoon downpour, which is exactly when you need them predictable.
Heavy Duty Glass on 2500 and 3500
Heavy-duty RAMs tow, and towing changes how glass fails. Chassis flex under load transmits into the windshield, so an existing crack that looked stable for months can run the first time the truck pulls a loaded gooseneck up out of the valley. If you tow for work, treat a crack as urgent rather than cosmetic — it will pick its moment, and the moment will be inconvenient.
Farm Roads and Gravel Haulers in the Mission Valley
The stretch between Clint, San Elizario and Fabens is working agricultural land, and the roads reflect it. Two-lane blacktop with unpaved shoulders, tractors moving between fields, and gravel haulers running loads with a lot of loose material on the tailgate. Caliche dust coats everything and finds every chip. A RAM working that area sees more glass damage per mile than the same truck commuting on Loop 375 — and because most of those roads have nowhere convenient to stop, damage tends to get ignored until it spreads.
Insurance note: Texas comprehensive policies commonly cover glass, and many waive the deductible on a chip repair. Ask your insurer about glass coverage specifically before assuming a RAM windshield is out of pocket — see our what-to-do guide for how to approach the claim.
RAM Glass Questions
Common questions about RAM windshield repair and replacement in El Paso, TX
How often do ProMaster windshields need replacing on a delivery route?
More often than most vans, because the glass is flat and enormous. Operators running steady El Paso routes frequently see damage a few times a year. Repairing chips promptly is the only thing that meaningfully changes that number.
Does the rain sensor transfer to the new windshield?
Yes, the sensor itself moves across, but it needs a fresh optical gel pad to seat properly against the new glass. Skipping that pad is a common shortcut and it causes the wipers to misread. We replace it every time.
My RAM 2500 crack spread while towing — can it still be repaired?
Once a crack passes roughly six inches or reaches the glass edge, repair is off the table and it becomes a replacement. Cracks that grew under towing load have usually done both.
Can you come to a job site in Fabens or Clint?
Yes. Our mobile service covers the full Mission Valley. We need a reasonably level spot and some shade if possible — resin and urethane both behave better out of direct desert sun.
